Pierre Capdau Charter School’s band program received a donation of 33 band instruments from the Tipitina’s Foundation.
Lake Area's Brenda Barabino inducted into SUNO Athletic Hall of Fame
Congratulations to a member of the New Beginnings family. Brenda Barabino, a PE II and sports & fitness teacher at Lake Area New Tech Early College High School, has been inducted into the inaugural Hall of Fame Class of Southern University at New Orleans. The New Orleans native, who played for SUNO's Lady Knights from 1985 to 1989, became the leading scorer in the University's history.
New Beginnings "One App" Enrollment Open House Events, February 13 - 17
The Capital One-New Beginnings Charter School Network will hold a series of One App Enrollment Open House Events at each of its schools between February 13 and 17. One App is the citywide enrollment system for the Recovery School District's direct-run and charter schools.
Lake Area New Tech ECHS admitted to La. High School Athletic Association
Lake Area New Tech Early College High School has gained admission to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported that Lake Area has been join by L.B. Landry and Sci Academy as the LHSAA's newest members.
Gentilly Terrace Second Harvest Food Drive
Gentilly Terrace Charter School held a successful holiday food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. In all, the school collected 809 perishable items.
Adult Literacy/Job Preparation Workshop to be featured on WYLD's Sunday Journal
Tonja Jackson, program coordinator of the Capital One New Beginnings Schools Foundation Adult Literacy Center of Greater New Orleans, will be a guest on WYLD-FM's Sunday Journal. The interview will air on Sunday, Jan. 8, between 7 and 7:30 am on WYLD FM 98.
Adult Literacy Center to present Job Preparation Workshops, January 12
The New Beginnings Schools Foundation Adult Literacy Center of Greater New Orleans will begin the New Year by presenting job preparation workshops to assist adults seeking to enter the workforce or find a new job. The workshops, which are free and open to the public, will take place on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Medard Nelson (9 am to 11 am) and Gentilly Terrace (1 pm to 3 pm) charter schools.
December New Beginnings Schools Foundation Board meeting rescheduled
The Dec. 27, 2011 Board of Directors meeting of the New Beginnings Schools Foundation has been canceled. The next scheduled meeting is Jan. 31, 2012 at 5:00 pm.
